I am Investigator Mike Harris with the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office which is in Colorado. I have been investigating Online Predators since 1996. I have seen many changes over the years to how Child Sex Offenders go after our children Online. I am seeing more than ever the change which cell phones are playing and being used by predators to lure children.
If you think about it, children who have cell phones go everywhere with them. At least with their computers they remain at home. In educating children at schools more than 50% of children in Jefferson County are reporting unsolicited text messages from individuals they do not know.
Software has been developed for computers to help us keep children safe. Children need to be kept safe in their use of cell phones. Radar has taken this challenge and the first step. I highly recommend if parents are going to let their young children have cell phones then they should get Radar. You require your children to wear a seat belt when they are in the car. They probably won't be in an accident, but we prepare for the accident by making them use seat belts. I would recommend we prepare for our children to be approached on their cell phone by a Predator or by them making a mistake with providing too much personal information. Radar helps you stay in touch and be there for your child. Look at Radar as simply a seat belt for their cell phone.
You can setup Radar to alert you immediately on suspicious texts or phone calls.
If you were sleeping sound one night and your child sends a text message saying, "Mom and dad are asleep, I will meet you at the corner". Without Radar your child meets whomever, at the corner. With Radar you are standing in the living room as your child tries to leave.
I recommend at every Internet Safety Presentation to parents that a child that has a cell phone and receives incoming and outgoing text messages and pictures is a mobile computer. We need to keep up with the trends which endanger our children and Radar is the first tool available which can help keep your child safe with their use of cell phones.
I use Radar as a law enforcement tool. I have used Radar for just four weeks and it has played a pivotal role in the arrest of 3 child sex offenders.
I have devoted my law enforcement career to keeping children safe. I strongly recommend looking into Radar for your child's safety.
Sincerely,
Mike Harris, Sr. Investigator and Supervisor of the Child Sex Offender Internet Investigations Unit.
